How To Use Bink’s Spoon
Vertical Jigging:
The most common method of fishing with the Bink Spoon is vertical jigging. This method is typically used for fish feeding near the bottom but can be used on suspended fish also. Locate the fish with your sonar equipment. If the fish are on or near the bottom let the spoon drop until it hits bottom. Snap your rod vertically and then let the spoon free fall back to the bottom. The fish will normally strike when the spoon is falling. Try to keep your line as vertical as possible. If the fish are suspended let the spoon drop to the bottom and then crank your reel the number of times it takes to get the spoon up to the fish. (Do a test on your reel to see how many feet of line is taken in with 1 crank). Work the spoon the same as if you started on the bottom.
Horizontal jigging:
Horizontal jigging is becoming popular for fishing an incline or drop off. Position your boat in the deep water and cast the spoon to the shallow water. Let the spoon drop to the bottom. Snap your rod tip back and then let the spoon free fall. When the spoon hits the bottom, real in the slack and repeat the process. Watch your line closely. You will see a twitch in your line when the fish strikes. Set the hook immediately.
Top water fish:
When you see fish breaking the surface cast the Bink spoon past the top water action and immediately begin your retrieve. Make the spoon skip along the surface giving the appearance of a wounded bait fish. Wait until you feel the fish on your line before you set the hook. The ½ oz spoon is the best size to use for top water fish.
Selecting spoon size and line:
0-20 ft – ½ oz with 6-8 lb test.
20-40 ft ¾ oz with 8-10 lb test.
40 ft and deeper 1 oz with 10-12 lb test.
